"Muse of Dev'n'shire"

Muse of Dev'n'shire
light of body and soul
wispy like the morning
Dew, who on the flowers
does pay her toll
Muse of heart, spirit
of water and tempest
Gentle, calm and caring
all these traits be hers
yet hers be not best
Muse of new, muse of old
somtimes somber, often cruel
To mortal man does bring
pain uncurable with herbs
making mortal hearts dual
Making want for both
to have the cake and eat it too
to serve and be served
to be impatient yet wait
She of finest silk
wears heavy dark cloth
She of places within
remains without, friendly
yet aloft
Greater than those before
less than those to come
Stronger and weaker
than all and some
So come and see the Muse of Dev'n'shire
all decked out in
her prison tower
Upon the shore of a lonely heart, her self
The encompassing spire
Her own entrapment
her own release
her own escape are
her own feet
her hands don't move
neither does she
from this criminal prison
to be free
Free from the death
Free from the life
Free from the strife
Free from the enchantment
Free from advancement
Free from man
Free from love

"Phoenix One" For The Fiery Dove

gilted bars and empty cages
a bird within the prison ages
remember'd only on faerie pages
the stories told, now forgotten
the iron under gold now rotten
while the dove breast hottens
white with age, timeless beauty
ready now to do her duty
head to breast from cruelty
innocence not yet lost
though tempest tost
the eyes betray her most
telling all, hiding all
wise, infinite, small
behind her superficial wall
soon like Pheonix to
die and begin anew
she lie down, beak askew
from within the fire came
as the first, this the same
inferno whence she became
from the time before time
when Mother Earth, sublime
pondered o'er her first rhyme
the sound of the crest, the rise
of the ocean tides
she was first of lives
bourne of the flame
Earth was of the same
and she, the bird, untamed
ruled the conflagtion
until there was station'd
more than meagre ration
and out of the dust appeared
a creature to be feared,
to rule the vast sphere
out of her wing the fiery feathers
fell as she fled to the weathers
forming the flowers we now know as Heathers
the ivory beast was now immersed
in the self-same flames that coursed
inside, the heat thus forced
from inside out and in again
the intensity wreathed the pen
and the brig, aged thin
shattered as brittle wormwood
and soft as eggshell would
for now, here, the mighty creature stood
swathed in fire light
pyre bedight
she regained lofty height
stretched her wings once more
the glory of before
renewed as she found nature's door

Poetry By Richard Austin

Untitled #1
==================================
This wasn't the day that I thought it would be
No Silver and Golden dream for me
Awoke in the morning with Sun in my heart
A skip in my step as I strolled to the Park
Then a cloud came over
darkened the day
That's all too often life's little way

It was me
=========
I loved you you see
In all of those times
When you hit me
and screamed
Told me it was me
and I made you do it
When you stabbed me
and threatened me
The hammer and the hate
Bruised wrists
I still cleaned the slate
because it was me

Untitled #2
==============
Cried in the night
through love and fear
Couldnt see why you hated
It must have been me
I got you mad
and you couldnt stop
Curled in a ball
I knew it was me

Took all the kicks
The hits in the head
the bottle exploding
the lumps rising
Your anger subsiding
My mind writhing
in the agony of knowing
It was me

In the fear and the dark
========================
Lying in the dark
Even when it's light
Inside so torn
Not a feeling of pain
Though you ache
And the bruises smart

Deeper than that
Down in the cage
Of your fear
Trying to hide
From the anger
The threats

Nowhere to turn
No-one to tell
You try to talk
They offer you tea
You can't explain
Can't make them see
How broken you are

Playing it straight
Keep to the rules
By the school gate
I slipped and I fell
Again

No-one can know
And they can't understand
They see it on TV
That's a different land
To the place where you live
In the fear and the dark

From personal experience.
